Project 2025 Happening NOW: A Recurring Series
Where we cover how red states and the judiciary are already implementing Project 2025 (Scroll to the end to listen)
I don’t know about you, but I’m sick of hearing my fellow Americans say, “You’re hysterical. You’re overreacting. You’re delusional. Christo-fascism won’t ever happen in America.” Especially since last week was a Christo-fascist shit show at the Supreme Court.
We’ll get to Project 2025 and the Supreme Court tomorrow. I’m going to outline every case these bought-and-paid-for, Christo-fascist justices have heard. I’ll tie them to specific Project 2025 policy recommendations. As new court cases come online, we’ll include them in future installments of this series.
For the balance of the week, I will give the same treatment to various states. In this series, we’ll cover Texas, Idaho, and Tennessee. One week a month going forward, we will compare state legislation with various Project 2025 policies, both enacted and pending.
I’m calling this series Project 2025: Happening NOW.
I hope readers will use this series to persuade skeptical connections. By the November election, we will have at least seven weeks of P2025 Happening NOW content. If we need more, I can pivot.
Today, I am posting links to various newsletters where I’ve already covered some aspect of Project 2025: Happening NOW. Because we have a lot of new subscribers, I hope this rundown will provide quick-and-dirty tools to talk about Project 2025 more effectively.
This newsletter explains why Christian Nationalist politicians (and judges and Supreme Court justices) go after behavior most Americans consider private. They believe God calls them to root out all sexual immorality. If they fail, God will judge the whole nation a la Sodom and Gomorrah.
It is why numerous states have introduced “Don’t Say Gay” legislation.
It is why Clarence Thomas asserted in his Dobbs opinion that we need to revisit decisions granting the right for married people to use contraception, the right for same-sex couples to have sex, and the right for same-sex couples to marry.
It is why the Christo-fascist Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade; why they agreed to hear cases to restrict mifepristone nationwide; and why they entertained the state of Idaho’s challenge to EMTALA for pregnant people needing emergency abortions.
The so-called “Parents Rights” movement is an effort to force the prudish Christian Nationalist definition of pornography on everyone. Anyone living in a state with book bans, restrictions on sex education in public schools, attacks on public libraries, and similar is on this fight’s front lines.
Because as a reminder, Christian Nationalists define pornography much more broadly than most Americans do. Homosexuality is porn. Sex and other physical contact between two people who aren’t married is porn. Nude artworks are porn.
The map below from PEN America is the latest book ban count I can find online.
Project 2025 reimagines all government welfare as religious indoctrination in exchange for assistance. Many red states already force citizens accused of various crimes into religious indoctrination programs to avoid jail time. We covered a Texas John school at the link above.
Across America, it isn’t uncommon for religiously-affiliated homeless shelters and maternal care centers to require Bible study attendance for diapers, church attendance for shelter, “counseling” with unlicensed church members for food coupons, and more. Project 2025 would transform all welfare assistance and punishment in lieu of jail into religious indoctrination.
When people say, “When you call the Republican Party ‘Christo-fascist’ you sound unhinged,” this ongoing series will give readers persuasive talking points to show how Project 2025 is already happening.
"I don’t know about you, but I’m sick of hearing my fellow Americans say, 'You’re hysterical. You’re overreacting. You’re delusional. Christo-fascism won’t ever happen in America.'"
Andra, if it's any consolation, you're not alone. I first warned my friends about Christo-fascism in the summer and fall of 2020, when my work took me through rural America, and I witnessed firsthand and with mouth agape what the denizens of MAGA-land were saying and doing. I even predicted a violent event but couldn't foresee the enormity of what turned out to be January 6, 2021. I was mocked and derided for my warnings. Know that I am solidly behind your work and will continue to spread the word about the great danger that awaits us if Drumpf is reelected.
Great idea Andra- it's important that people understand project 2025 is already happening and has been, it's valuable to see tangible Christo fascist laws that are already in place, and court cases that are currently in play.
