How Project 2025 Removes Guardrails Part 1
For PAID SUBSCRIBERS. Thank you for supporting this work. (Scroll to the end to listen)
The Constitution calls for a separation of powers between the three branches of government - executive, legislative, and judicial. This critical guardrail allows government bodies to act independently to honor the Constitution and rule of law. It also prevents power from being too heavily concentrated in one branch, what we call checks and balances.
Today we examine how Project 2025 erodes separation of powers and our system of checks and balances.
One could argue that Project 2025 interprets the Constitution as President = Dictator or King.
In its opening words, Article II of the U.S. Constitution makes it abundantly clear that “[t]he executive power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America.” That enormous power is not vested in departments or agencies, in staff or administrative bodies, in nongovernmental organizations or other equities and interests close to the government. The President must set and enforce a plan for the executive branch. Sadly, however, a President today assumes office to find a sprawling federal bureaucracy that all too often is carrying out its own policy plans and preferences—or, worse yet, the policy plans and preferences of a radical, supposedly “woke” faction of the country.
In Federalist No. 47, James Madison warned that “[t]he accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.” Regrettably, that wise and cautionary note describes to a significant degree the modern executive branch, which—whether controlled by the bureaucracy or by the President—writes federal policy, enforces that policy, and often adjudicates whether that policy was properly drafted and enforced.
Project 2025, page 43 - 44
Over the course of 920 pages, Project 2025 mentions the President’s agenda, Presidential policies, the President’s objectives, Presidential goals and similar 219 times. (For math nerds, that’s a mention almost 1 in every 4 pages or a quarter of the document.)
For weeks, we’ve been making the case for Project 2025 as a Christo-fascist manifesto. When they mention the President’s agenda, they mean the Christo-fascist agenda to transform the United States into a theocracy. To turn Madison’s words onto Project 2025, it is a roadmap for tyranny.
Here’s how Project 2025 uses their interpretation of Presidential power to erode the separation of powers and our system of checks and balances.
The use of executive orders.
Project 2025 calls for the preparation of as many as 100 executive orders to be signed on Inauguration Day. These executive orders deal with wide-ranging government functions including:
Climate policies
Federal employees/civil servants
DEI initiatives
Abortion and access to female reproductive healthcare
Labor and unions
Business regulation
LGBTQIA+ standards
Immigration/sealing the border
Project 2025 also recommends aggressive use of executive orders to carry out conservative goals and objectives, to stymie government gridlock, and to bypass a potentially combative Congress.
Forcing the Department of Justice to bow to the President’s agenda.
The DOJ has become a bloated bureaucracy with a critical core of personnel who are infatuated with the perpetuation of a radical liberal agenda and the defeat of perceived political enemies. It has become a Cabinet-level department whose leadership appears to care more about how they are perceived in the next Politico or Washington Post article, or their stature with any number of radical leftist organizations, than they do about justice and advancing the interests of the American people. It is essential that the next conservative Administration place a high priority on reforming the DOJ and its culture to align the department with its core purposes and advance the national interest…Not reforming the Department of Justice will also guarantee the failure of a conservative Administration’s agenda in countless other ways.
Project 2025, page 547
We’ve read about the many ways Attorney General Bill Barr thwarted 45’s worst impulses as the country careened toward its first contested transfer of power. In 2025, a Republican attorney general will be someone like Jeffrey Clark: Willing to turn the full force of the United States military on civilians who resist Christo-fascist governmental control; ready to follow Presidential orders that violate the Constitution and rule of law as “implementing the President’s agenda.”
The Department of Justice includes the FBI. Project 2025 recommends forcing the FBI to be accountable to the Department of Justice, rather than acting as an independent crime-fighting agency. It also calls for hiring and retaining only those loyal to the President’s agenda.
Essentially, the Department of Justice and the FBI will be completely controlled by the President. They will drop cases and investigations that aren’t in keeping with the President’s agenda, and they will initiate cases and investigations that carry out the de-facto Republican nominee’s stated agenda of vengeance and retribution.
Weaponizing other government agencies.
The beauty of interpreting the Constitution as “all executive power rests with the President” is the conclusion that every employee of the entire executive branch must carry out the President’s agenda. Even if that agenda conflicts with the Constitution, the rule of law, separation of powers, and checks and balances. Project 2025 allows no wiggle room. Everything must be done the President’s way.
By forcing every governmental employee to bow to the President’s agenda, the government can be further weaponized. They can use the IRS to investigate anyone they suspect of disloyalty. They can interpret government guidelines to fine and bankrupt businesses owned by dissenters. They can arrest, imprison, and even deport suspected enemies of the regime.
De facto control of the Judicial Branch.
The Founders envisioned a non-political judicial branch where a person’s politics did not color their interpretation of the Constitution or rule of law. The most significant accomplishment of 45’s presidency will be its decades-long impact on the federal judiciary.
We’ve already seen the damage 45’s many judicial appointees have wreaked. The fall of Roe. Erosion of voting rights. A gutting of civil rights laws. Court-approved discrimination disguised as protecting religious freedom.
Another four-years of Republican control would further corrupt the judicial branch and consolidate control of every district court and appellate court in the land. Combined with their dominance of the Supreme Court, they could force the Republican Christo-fascist agenda (disguised as the President’s agenda) on every American, even if they live in a blue state.
If they claim executive authority rests with the president, then why can't Joe Biden do the same thing? The Democrats can't show up to a gunfight with a knife.
They want to turn the United States into a police state.
