Christian Nationalists believe God expects everyone, native-born and immigrant, to obey government laws.
In a recent newsletter, I referenced Romans 13. Christian Nationalists interpret this New Testament chapter as: God established government to be “an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer.”
Can anyone imagine the Christian Nationalist government of people like Tom Cotton, who is presently encouraging people to attack and possibly kill pro-Gaza protesters? This is the same Tom Cotton who said Israel has the right to “bounce the rubble” in Gaza.
Theirs is the government of vengeful, vicious Old Testament God. They do not apply the lens of a forgiving New Testament Jesus to Romans 13, even though the latter is part of the New Testament.
To Christian Nationalists, few are more worthy of God’s wrath than those who choose to break immigration laws and enter the US illegally.
As a reminder, Christian Nationalists interpret the Bible literally. If Genesis says God created everything in 6 days and rested on the 7th day, Christian Nationalists believe that means God created everything in 6 literal 24-hour days and rested for 24 hours on the 7th day.
According to Genesis, the planets, moons, and stars weren’t created until Day 4, but they make no concession for this lack of systems that form a 24-hour day. A day is 24 hours now; it must have been 24 hours then; they don’t question.
Christian Nationalists interpret Romans 13 as “everyone is subject to God’s laws and must answer to his proxy, the government.”
13 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Source: Romans 13:1 KJV
In the verses above, “the higher powers” are God and the government. God ordained the government to rule over humans as his earthly proxy, making government “the powers that be.”
Immigrants who enter the United States illegally are resisting the powers that be, or the government and its immigration laws. This is why Christian Nationalists often justify their poor treatment of immigrants by saying, “People who come here need to obey our laws.”
Resisting government power = making government an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the illegal immigrant.
2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.Source: Romans 13:2 and 4 KJV
When you scroll through images of human beings in animal cages, envision this Christian Nationalist view of government as avenger.
For every child who is still separated from its parents, apply the Christian Nationalist filter of government as avenger.
Every time someone drowns in the Rio Grande while officers watch or shreds themselves on razor wire, remember Christian Nationalists believe government is the avenger.
This is why Christian Nationalists have spent the past five decades infiltrating government and the judiciary. If THEY are the government, THEY are God’s avengers.
As we dive into Project 2025’s immigration policies this week, keep “Christo-fascist government means God’s avenger” top-of-mind.
I upgraded to a paid subscriber because I think it's important that everyone knows about Project 2025. I know a lot of time and effort goes into reading and interpreting and sharing this tome with the public. I also know not everyone is able to or inclined to pay for this vital information about the dangers of losing our rights and freedoms in America. This is my humble contribution to making this information available to everyone. Thank you, Andra! 🙏
"In the verses above, “the higher powers” are God and the government. God ordained the government to rule over humans as his earthly proxy, making government “the powers that be.”"
This is exactly what our forefathers were protecting against in our Constitution--a form of government ordained by God. In other words, a king.
