Christian Nationalists and the "Natural" Role of Women
Today's Monday Refresher (Scroll to the end to listen)
Because readers likely expect me to say something about Biden’s decision to drop out, let me make one thing clear: I AM DELIGHTED TO VOTE FOR KAMALA HARRIS. I wanted a woman in 2016. I voted for a woman in the 2020 primary. Let’s unite behind our candidate and defeat these Republican fascists. And the best way to do that is to tell your fellow Americans about Project 2025 today.
If it wasn’t clear before the Republican National Convention, 45’s VP pick should drive one thing home: The Christian Nationalist Republican Party HATES women. And they use their interpretation of the Bible to justify it.
Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
Genesis 3:16 KJV
Christian Nationalists interpret their Bibles literally. They are convinced the Bible says abortion is murder; trans people don’t exist because ‘God doesn’t make mistakes;’ homosexuality is a mortal sin and perversion against God; women should be mothers who stay home and submit to their husbands (see Genesis 3:16 above); divorce is a sin; etc.
Once one understands how a Christian Nationalist interprets the Bible, it is very easy to predict what rights they will suppress and what laws they will attack. Project 2025 and Fascist Republicans have fiercely attacked the hard-earned rights of women.
Christian Nationalist Republicans believe God cursed Eve because she ate the fruit first. She tempted Adam to fall with her, so God made all women subservient to men to punish Eve for being the first to fall. To them, it isn’t hateful to force women to be pregnant or tell us to get back in the kitchen or call for stripping us of our right to vote.
Fascist Republican Christian Nationalists shrug and say, “The Bible is God’s law. God cursed Eve and said husbands should rule over their wives. We’re doing God’s will.”
The only way to stop this downward spiral in our rights - for women, for minorities, for immigrants, for LGBTQIA+, for transgender people - is to vote Blue up and down our ballots.
For today’s Monday Refresher, here’s a look-back at various newsletters touching on Project 2025’s dastardly plans to subjugate women.
In this newsletter, we covered how Christian Nationalist Republicans believe God makes women pregnant to judge them for “hidden” sin, to “get their attention,” or to force them to turn back to him. It’s no coincidence that red state Republican lawmakers say things like “Forced birth can be the greatest healing agent.” They truly believe helping those who are suffering prohibits the latter from hearing an angry, judgmental Old Testament God.
This newsletter covers the Christian Nationalist definition of a family: The husband is the head of the home; the wife submits to the husband and has as many children as God gives her. We also touch on their calls to end no-fault divorce in this newsletter.
In “Reader Question: How Do Christian Nationalists View the Death Penalty?", we covered how Christian Nationalists view government as God’s avenger on wrongdoers. If Christian Nationalists control the government, they will be God’s avengers. We go through a detailed list of who that harms, including far-right calls to stone women to death for being caught in adultery.
In this newsletter, I answered a reader question about whether Christian Nationalist Republicans would try to control female dress. I pointed to North Carolina pastor Bobby Leonard. When he said he would acquit a man for raping a woman if she was wearing shorts, he set off a viral firestorm. He may have apologized, but his sentiment is in line with Christian Nationalist dogma: A woman must control herself because a man cannot control himself. (Or Leonard’s version: A man is a man.)
In “How to Talk to Your Friends About Project 2025’s Abortion Policies,” I outlined all the ways Project 2025 seeks to reduce women to “vessels for the unborn” and “property of men.” This newsletter contains a lot of good talking points readers can use on the ground in their communities.
This week, we will take a look at more ways Project 2025 and Fascist Republicans want to roll back every right women have earned in the past 100 years. Through red state laws, far-right talking points, overt signals in Supreme Court rulings and more, Republicans are making themselves clear: They will use their Bibles to subjugate and control women, and they will punish anyone who resists.

What does the Bible say about wasting one's talents.? Are women doctors, scientists, engineers, writers, lawyers etc. supposed to bury their talents? 1 Peter 4:10 (NIV), “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others.” Bit of a contradiction?
Don’t forget that when a man uses a woman all up after she has his children and cares for him and them for 20 years then leaves her for a younger model she will be left with literally nothing. I know they want no fault divorce but somehow men will have an out. I know that for sure.
Maybe I’m bitter because this happened to my mother after raising dad’s 5 kids. Btw he was ordained in the southern Baptist church albeit not preaching then. It was a serious lesson and I vowed to always have my own career and money which I did. We can’t let this happen in the 21st century!
