I am assuming that accepted literary masterpieces (even Shakespeare) would be banned. The Victorians "bowdlerized" Shakespeare. Is that where we are headed, at least in OK? Would book lovers be unable to access "Ulysses" or works by DH Lawrence, for example? Would adults be blocked from ordering from Amazon or Barnes & Noble? How far are they willing to carry this edict?

Many classic books would be banned if those doing the banning know about them, yes. But I believe this is an effort to punish living, working writers, many of whom craft stories in the most popular fiction genre: romance. Women overwhelmingly write and read romance. Making much of it porn would remove an ability to earn a living for many female writers AND it would remove an escape for many female readers (me included.) These people don’t have fun banning stuff where they can’t see people suffer. The point of laws like this is to create real fear and to show real consequences that perpetuate more fear.

As for how it would impact what one can order online, I can imagine swaths of titles being removed.

Yipes! I lived in OK for 3 years, having taken on a temporary teaching job. I'd say it's a god-forsaken place if I weren't an agnostic. People who feed off others' fear and deprivation are very fearful creatures themselves.

I note there does not seem to be an allowance/exception for SATIRICAL content....such a trap, as my first instinct is to imagine a meme involving Oklahoma legislators and their hidden urges. Is my instinct now criminalized (Clause #3, "Intend to")?

The “intend to” language is horrifying, because they will decide what a person “intended.” And they don’t get satire. Ever. Satire isn’t funny to them.

This scares the shit out of me! I need to renew my passport, so I’ll be able to get the hell out of the US, should i need to come November.

Exactly. It scares the shit out of me, too. I know what these people are capable of, because I grew up in that world.

I know. Passport doesn’t expire for a year, but better to renew while i still can.

You might get faster service if you send contact one of your senators' offices. They have constituent services people to fast-track passports. I've had good results with that service, even though it costs a little bit more.

Family keep wondering why I want to run far, far away. This is a big part of why. We're sleepwalking into an authoritarian nightmare yet people are thinking we're doing fabulously.

My family don’t get why I am living in Spain. For the same reasons. I understand.

The reason they can get away with this is that they exclude anything with other 'value', so they're essentially just copying obscenity law, which is still considered constitutional. The problem obviously is they intend to be the ones who decide whether something has other 'value'.

Right. This is intentionally written to be able to excuse themselves while imprisoning their “enemies.”

Best thing we could do is legalize sex. Sex worker's need to unionize. They need to be a united front to have control over their sex jobs. People are going to have sex. So, have protections for the workers. Better grip on human trafficking. Laws for their human rights and safety. Medical insurance, profit sharing. It's not going away, ever. Why can't we just be smart about this??

I just can't help but think how these whacked fucked up parents did a number on these adults brains when they were kids, really did a job on them. They are the ones found in the no-tell motel with a hooker or a child and a crack pipe. Heavy sigh!! I read today in the Guardian, the 51% of Scottish people do not believe in religions anymore. That's hopeful.

It blows my mind how one man's sex addiction has permeated history. This all stems from St Augustine.

I agree about sex worker protections. And protections for the rest of us do enjoy sex in privacy.
