What gave me hope this week was seeing increasing numbers of Republican politicians, National Security leaders and others not only vowing NOT to vote for Trump, but stating they're voting FOR the Harris-Walz ticket, AND encouraging others to follow their lead.
When in the recent history of Presidential elections have we seen such effort to cross the aisle in support of the opposing candidate?
My mom lives in rural AZ. This week an angry white man called her a "Harris Bitch" at a grocery store - for context she is a white woman with fantastic dreadlocks so clearly a dangerous liberal (audible eye-roll). Being in the center of Arizona MAGA country, she braced herself in anticipation of others in the store adding to this man's bizarre hatred. Instead, several people around her including a few store employees yelled "Go Harris!!" to her and the man. That gave me hope.
Mixed bit of joy & sorrow but joy/ gratitude that friends are OK that have been in the path of Hurricane Helene but also a recognition of the destruction wrought in various states as well as the loss of life.
And also grateful for the discussion that you had with John Pavlovitz.
We had wind, rain and flooding in coastal SC, but other areas have had it much worse. Here’s to electing more people who believe science and curb climate change.
Seeing that others who are informed and not naive have hope, gives me reassurance I may hope again. This is a white knuckle week for me, and the weekend shows no signs of improvement. Thank you for showing there could be a way out.
It gave me hope to see some new polls particularly out of the swing states with Kamala mostly ahead. Also reports that polls have not been able to capture the number of youth that are registered and likely voters for Kamala and you Andra
I said this somewhere else, but I'm also paying attention to the betting markets, which are very blue for the presidency and the house. We really need to focus on getting a couple of these projected-red seats to flip blue in the Senate. Without the Senate, we're in for 2 more years of complete dysfunction.
I have been supporting some of the down ballots with donations I’m particularly interested in Jon Tester and Debbie Murscal out of Florida so I agree with you there. Also like to see Ted Cruz flushed out. Where did you see the betting? That’s interesting
Not seeing all the angry orange one’s 😡 signs in our neighborhood.People pulled them up before Helene….or perhaps they blew away never to return!
We live on the east coast so safe from Helene. We spent a couple days,250 miles away from Helene’s windfall, cycling the trails.Pleased to see, in another red county, far less 😡 signs than 2020.
The power went out in our Air BNB Thursday night and the host graciously offered to put us up in a hotel. We decided to stay and then a large tree fell ,from next door, and crashed through our windshield. The host’s husband, Mike, was there within 10 minutes with a tarp and helped my husband secure. The power returned as did Mike at daylight to help my husband extract the tree.Everyone we encountered was so kind and helpful…Kaitlyn the insurance adjuster, Tim the tow truck operator, Kevin at the collision repair center and Gustavo at the rental car agency. We were on our way for the short short trip home by noon the next day thanks to the kindness of all. It was just a minor inconvenience in the big scheme….especially when you see the devastation from Helene. So much giving me hope..💙
Rudy “Colludy”Giuliani was disbarred in DC. Nothing like a bit of fuck around and find out news to put a smile on my face.
Hear! Hear! Made me happy.

Yes, this has given me a lot of hope too.

I love how this unfolded, though I’m sorry your mom endured name calling.
YOU gave me hope. Keep spreading the word!!
Thank you, Adele.
Kamala continues to run a buoyant and superb campaign. GOP continues to melt like the wicked witch…
Here’s to the GOP melting down the drain.

Our friends and family all came through the hurricane with only minor damage and polls are looking bluer.
I'm relieved to hear it, Deborah.

We can do this, Kevin. I hope your weekend is improving.
Thank you. It is and that is enough for now.
I'm block walking my neighborhood with Molly Cook this Wednesday and block walking with Avow Houston tomorrow for abortion justice. Very exciting.
And hopeful!

There are several sites that report races based on betting markets. Here's a Senate map from Maxim Lott and John Stossel: https://electionbettingodds.com/SenateWithMap2024.html
Which doesn't look great for FL and TX, but I'm still hopeful for those 2 matches. And Dan Osborn in Nebraska is polling well.
Thank you for this. Yes I am still hopeful for Fla and Tx

I'm glad you and yours made it through Helene, Kathy. It was scary how fast it intensified.
The first Harris-Walz signs have appeared in my neighborhood this week. And first time seeing them in town.
This gives me hope.
So much hope! We have Harris/Walz signs up in our neighborhood, too.
