World Vasectomy Day is Nov 15

https://nationaltoday.com/world-vasectomy-day/

I’m waiting for DeSantis to ban it….along with Florida’s draconian ban on abortion and sex education!

I have news for Dr. Meaney and “the silent plague of vasectomies”, the current trend is not towards falling numbers as he cites a 2018 study. Since Roe V Wade was overturned, vasectomies are up including among men under 30.Bring on the “hedonistic sex” !

I mentioned vasectomies here because they are part of male bodily autonomy. My husband wasn't excited about his snip-snip, but he never thought some government theocrat would tell him he couldn't have it.

And yes, I could totally see DeSantis banning it.

It’s not a stretch to see DeSantis first start banning the billboards advertising vasectomies. He is currently threatening to prosecute tv stations airing ads supporting Amend 4/Repro Rights.

DeSantis twice vetoed $ for reversible birth control because the Florida Conf of Catholic Bishops requested. In the link in my post above, The National Catholic “Bioethics” Center also justifies insurance coverage of Viagra while maligning coverage for birth control.

I hope men are paying attention!! I’m grateful VP Harris is stressing how this is about control of everyone’s body,no matter what gender !!

What excuse/justification would he have (to the media), given Republicans do not have a track record of undermining heterosexual men's rights?

Has he offered any justification for anything he's done that would make sense to anyone beyond his following?

Ron DeSantis is performing as a job interview harmful acts on the residents of Florida. See how he is turning down FEMA support for not one but two hurricanes. I read this article yesterday discussing the possible impact of Hurricane Milton. Normally Matt Stoller writes about Anti-trust happenings, but now he is writing from personal experience and making recommendations for helping people, that might happen if Biden were not hampered by Mike Johnson, but not Trump.

https://www.thebignewsletter.com/p/what-happens-if-a-hurricane-smashes

Mike Johnson is also job interviewing by performing harmful acts on the American people. Both he and DeSantis want to be anointed by Trump to be a part of his administration. What a horrible job performance act that you destroy as many people as possible to possibly be included in someone's administration for running the country. Trump and his people seem bent on destroying the USA as quickly and devastatingly as possible.

So many are interviewing by performing awfulness. And it doesn’t matter how much one sucks up to a narcissist dictator. Your position is always precarious. There’s no bottom to your debasement. And the dictator can still cast you out on a whim. I don’t get why these Russian assets can’t see how Putin treats his own loyalists. Poisonings. Plane crashes. Disappearances. I’m writing more about this in tomorrow’s newsletter.

I agree with you. I think these Russian assets like Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Tucker Carlson, Donald Trump, JD Vance see what they want to see. The rest of us are watching them and seeing what we don't want to see. Now is the time to figure out what to do about it. We have already cast our votes from Abroad, and other than that MAGAs are now trying to attack this form of voting, we are weighing in for Harris and Walz. Democrats Abroad is a part of the Democratic National party, whereas Republicans Abroad are not connected to their national party. It means they can take money from anyone, but they are not that well organized. I don't even see their presence here in Germany. So, here's hoping that the awfulness continues to have rivals in the Dems. I did read a hopeful sort of discussion of the polls yesterday.

I see this as saying, the Harris being stuck at 2+ points does not make sense.

I'm speaking to a couple of the Germany-based Democrats Abroad later this morning for an event on the 20th. I haven't looked into Democrats Abroad in Spain, but it's on my list for after the election. You seem to get so much out of it.

The leader of Democrats Abroad Spain did come to one of our book club meetings since they are open to all Democrats Abroad. Most of the people in the book club are in Germany, probably because of the way they get information, but one is in England. I do get a lot out of it, and since you are so politically active, you are already doing the work. Is this an in person talk, or zoom on the 20th? I think my Democrats Abroad Germany region is going to see the movie The Apprentice, which Trump tried to get banned in the US, on the 20th. Otherwise I would love to hear your talk. I am learning so, so much from you. Thank you Andra.

It's a Zoom talk that will probably be recorded for playback if you miss it, but I'll bring this up today in case we picked a date with a conflict. Most of my friends in Spain aren't very politically active. Having said that, one has texted me about political stuff almost every day while I've been away. :) I don't know if you're this way, but I try very hard not to think about the US all the time when I'm in Spain. I want to enjoy my life there. Still, I understand that strengthening democracy worldwide is a daily job.

Two critically different versions of women’s place in the world are given in the first book of the Old Testament. The first version is from the first chapter of Genesis and a radically different version (the familiar one Ms. Watkins describes above) is from the second and third chapters of Genesis. The following quotes are from the King James translation of the Bible.

Genesis 1: 26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: ….27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. This version confers full moral authority and free will to both men and women.

Then comes the rewrite to fit embedded Jewish patriarchal tradition at the time. Jewish scholars even dispute the authenticity of the version that God made women from and for men (Genesis chapters 2 and 3). Christian Nationalists would do well to actually read the Bible before they consign all women to subordinate status.

You seem to be one of the few people who understands that Catholic extremists are the primary drivers of Christian Nationalism. For so long, and even still, people think that Protestant evangelicals are the primary drivers. Maybe at one point they were, but I don't think they are any longer.

My Baptist church parroted Catholic dogma on abortion, contraception, divorce, and premarital sex, among other things. But prominent P2025 players are Catholic. Vance. The 6 Supreme Court conservatives. Leonard Leo. This stew holds together because they agree on many culture war issues. But they will fight over whose strain will govern.

Going for the guys' gonads, are you.....Who could ever imagine a regime going so far into extremist religious fanaticism, and how could they ever expect to ascend to power with such a radical agenda....https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-61402309

But the very same Republican voters who would be outraged by this Islamic “cultism” (their word not mine) would impose similar Christian restrictions on bodily autonomy.

What is important is that every AMERICAN voter should be outraged, and should be doing everything they can to make sure the kind of extremism demonstrated by the Taliban in their Islamist world never ever comes close to these shores in the guise of Christian Nationalist extremism.

I wish more men understood what this could mean for them. Sadly, many would rather give someone else control over their bodies over voting for a woman.

Andra, do you think Republican lawmakers will ban vasectomies in the next few years or not like they seek to do for IUDs and Plan B? I don't think so, but one never knows.

Expand full comment
author

Depends on how much power they can seize. If they can capture enough, banning vasectomies is a possibility.

Expand full comment

That's good to know. It doesn't seem like a top priority like banning birth control. However, it could eventually happen in the worst-case scenario, depending on how evident lawmakers are in pursuing Christian Nationalism to the fullest extent (more so than now), which is what your response seems to be.

That they're already writing articles like the one I referenced should worry any man who might want to make that decision for himself.

I'm confused. What do you mean by your response? Can you please rephrase it?

Men should worry about the availability of vasectomies. By the time someone bans them, it will be too late. I don't know how else to phrase it.

Okay, that makes more sense. I agree with you entirely. If you had to guess, how many years should men anticipate vasectomies becoming banned? For instance, I expect birth control to get banned within the next three to four years. You also don't know, but it is helpful to have an approximate prediction if you have a number in mind.
